About Mull Health

This site is managed by locals for locals and anyone is welcome to help in this worrying time.

Covid-19 or the Coronavirus is more infectious than flu. It is an unpleasant disease. One of our own has written a very informative article about the virus.

Why the need for this website?
This website is to help our Island people and businesses through the Covid-19 virus epidemic. The continuing spread of the virus is a health concern to Mull and Iona as we have many special circumstances. While most people are going to suffer mild to medium symptoms, the elderly or those with an underlying heath problem in our community are at high risk of an unpleasant illness or worse.

What we do have as an advantage is that we are all part of a strong caring community. We know those amongst us who are most at risk. You could be part of a close family with older parents or grandparents, or be familiar with those who have health problems, or visit older people that are living alone.

It is important to work together to keep this vulnerable group from getting infected as this could strain our health system. Reducing infections in the vulnerable group also leaves medical space for, if by chance, any younger among us who react badly to the disease.

What can our Community or Business do to help?
We can put our efforts together to help protect our community and make visitors to the island feel they are a part of this caring community. This can be done by trying to reduce risk and employing best practice both at home and at work.

What can this site do?
Through this site we make easily available links to the best OFFICIAL ADVICE we can find.
Also on these pages we can share suggestions for every practical situation we can think of on Mull and Iona.

It is hoped this will make us:
Think carefully about all the situations that put older people at risk.
Think about best business practices.
Think about your own safety (you might sail through the infection however a member of you family might not).

For Cleaning
There are shortages of Ethyl alcohol. If you can get it or equivalent great. Please let Mull Health know the source.
The recommended alternative is bleach. Prepare a bleach solution by mixing:
5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water or 20/25ml bleach in a litre
Remember to follow standard precautions for using bleach

Leaving Lockdown

As we approach a decision on leaving lockdown the MCM group would like to reassure the Mull Community that we have only encountered overwhelming support for the Scottish Government position. Our experience and feedback has been that the Scottish Government comes over as caring and inclusive. In a crisis such as this you have to have trust. The Mull Crisis Management group will fully support the Scottish Government timing on coming out of Lockdown when ever that decision is made.

The objectives of the Group are to give the very best advice we can to protect our Community and help our businesses prosper in these very difficult times. We cannot pretend that things will be like they were before. Our lives and our workplaces will change and we have to face those changes together.
MCM group
